Matteo graduated in pharmaceutical biotechnologies at the University of Milan, Italy, in 2006, with a thesis on the molecular analysis of neuronal signalling markers in a pharmacological model of schizophrenia. He gained a PhD in neuropharmacology at the University of Catania, Italy, in 2010, studying gene-environment interactions on markers of synaptic plasticity in a behavioural model of psychiatric disorders.
He had his first editorial experience at Hippocrates Edizioni Medico-Scientifiche in Milan, Italy focusing on medical books, conference proceedings and commissioned content.
He joined the BMC series editorial team in 2016 as the Editor of BMC Palliative Care. He is also a contributor to the .
Palliative care in other conditions
Claudia Bausewein qualified in medicine at Munich University in 1992. Her medical background is internal medicine but she has been involved in palliative care in Germany for more than 30 years.
Dr Bausewein completed an MSc in Palliative Care at King's College London in 2003 and received her PhD there in 2009. She worked as Consultant in Palliative Medicine at the University of Munich and as senior clinical research fellow in the Cicely Saunders Institute at King's College London. Her research focuses on breathlessness, outcome measurement and palliative care in non-cancer patients.
In 2012, Dr Bausewein was appointed as Chair for Palliative Medicine at Munich University and is also Director of the Department of Palliative Medicine at Munich University Hospital. She joined BMC Palliative Care as Section Editor in 2012.
